Antifreeze -
Dogs and cats are attracted to this substance because of its
sweet smell and pleasant taste. Unfortunately, the active
ingredient, ethylene glycol, can cause massive kidney damage
and death if ingested, even in small amounts. Antifreeze
containing propylene glycol is safer in pet households.
Rock salt -
Pets that go outside can pick up chemical ice melts, ice and rock
salt in their foot pads. When they lick it off, it can cause
inflammaton of their digestive tract. Wipe your pet’s feet with
a washcloth when they come inside. Consider sand instead of salt
for icy walkways.
Ice Melting Products -
These can be irritating to skin and mouth. Depending on the actual
ingredient of the ice melt and the quantity, signs of ingestion
would include excessive drooling, depression, vomiting or even
electrolyte imbalances.
